EA Sports unveiled the top 10 cornerbacks in Madden NFL 25 on Thursday, with Gardner leading a list that also includes Jalen Ramsey of the Miami Dolphins and Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos.

He checked in at No. 4 last year before moving up three spots this year coming off back-to-back All-Pro first-team selections.

The Jets superstar can get lost in the shuffle because opposing quarterbacks don’t often throw in his direction. He allowed only 31 catches as the nearest defender and had 11 pass breakups last season.

Surtain has had a rapid ascent to become one of the best defensive players in the NFL. He was also the No. 3 cornerback in Madden NFL 24 when the game launched last year after just two seasons in the league.

The 24-year-old wasn’t as dominant overall in 2023 compared to his All-Pro campaign the previous year. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted he allowed a 102.5 passer rating as the nearest defender, but some of those struggles were inflated due to the style of defense played by Denver.

“He did not have the best year,” one NFL coordinator told Fowler about Surtain “But he’s still the best pure talent, he moves the best, and you can do the most with him as far as coverage, so if I’m starting a team, I’m probably picking him.”

Surtain’s durability also works in his favor. He has only missed one game in three seasons and played every defensive snap for the Broncos in 2023.

Despite being the oldest cornerback in the top 10 and two months away from turning 30, Ramsey hasn’t seen much of a decline in his skill set. He checks in as the No. 2 cornerback despite playing just 10 games last season due to a torn meniscus.

After making his 2023 debut in Week 8, Ramsey recorded five pass breakups and three interceptions. He appears to still have the same athleticism and instincts he did at his absolute peak with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams.

Further down the list at No. 8, Ward has been a reliably steady performer every year for the Browns. He has recorded at least 10 pass breakups and two interceptions in six NFL seasons.

The Browns had one of the most dominant defenses in the league last season and are loaded on that side of the ball once again. Ward and Myles Garrett—tied with Micah Parsons as the No. 1 edge rusher in Madden NFL 25—are foundational pieces of that unit.
