The 18th round of the 2024 MXGP World Championship took place today at the Afyon Motor Sports Center in Türkiye, bringing thrilling battles under challenging heat. The RAM Qualifying Races saw intense competition, with Team HRC’s Tim Gajser taking the win and extending his championship lead by 19 points.
Gajser’s victory marks his third consecutive win this season, securing his dominance on the track as he eyes crucial points in the championship race. He also clinched the RAM Driving Experience with his eighth Saturday victory, solidifying his lead as the season nears its end.
Starting from pole position after setting the fastest time in practice, Gajser crossed the holeshot line in first but briefly lost the lead. However, his strategic pass midway through the race put him back on top, and he controlled the race to take the win by a comfortable five-second margin.
Teammate Ruben Fernandez impressed as well, battling his way from eighth to fifth in just his second race back from injury. Fernandez showed resilience, making key passes and holding his position despite pressure from behind, boosting his confidence as he nears the season’s close.
In the MX2 class, Italian rider Ferruccio Zanchi also had a strong showing, finishing fifth in an exciting qualifying race. His performance adds to the anticipation for the upcoming races.
All eyes will be on Gajser and Fernandez as they aim to repeat these strong performances in Sunday’s main motos. With 50 points up for grabs, Gajser will be looking to further cement his championship lead, while Fernandez and Zanchi aim to continue their upward momentum.
