The Denver Broncos didn’t have quite the game they were hoping for, which led to a heated exchange between Russell Wilson and Mike Purcell.
Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson isn’t quite getting the job done the way the team needs him to, and players are beginning to show their frustration with him as he’s putting out the worst season of his career. Teammate Mike Purcell got into a heated exchange with Wilson on the sideline, and Wilson spoke about it shortly after in a press conference.
Wilson ultimately shared that there are no harsh feelings between the two, but Purcell stated, “We’ve got to f’ing go.” Wilson agreed, stating wins need to start happening.
Denver’s offense has been far from favorable this season between Wilson underperforming and Melvin Gordon having too many fumbles. Gordon was released, but it’s not nearly as easy to replace Wilson as there’s just one backup quarterback, Brett Rypien, who hardly has any NFL experience.
The Broncos should’ve been able to rely on Wilson much more than they have been able to this season given his results with the Seattle Seahawks.
Russell Wilson played much better with the Seahawks than the BroncosWith the Seahawks, Wilson’s lowest completion percentage in one season was 61.3 (2017), his lowest amount of completions was 252 (2012), least amount of passing yards was 3,113 (2021) and least amount of touchdowns was 20 (2014). He played with Seattle for 10 seasons, and his worst numbers over that span weren’t too bad.
However, he’s on pace this season with the Broncos to fall short of most of those numbers. He currently has 179 completions with a completion percentage of 59.5 over 2,227 yards and just seven touchdowns. This is extremely unfortunate for the Broncos as they’ve struggled to replace Peyton Manning for years.
Wilson may not be quite the same caliber as Manning, but he’s had seasons that were pretty close. He should’ve been able to be more comparable to Manning, but he’s posing many issues with inconsistent performances each week.
The Broncos unfortunately lost yet another road game, losing every single one so far this season. Wilson just isn’t doing what he needs to do, and the team is starting to get frustrated.
