Jorge Masvidal is dead set on making a comeback to combat sports this year.

Masvidal, a former UFC title challenger and BMF champion, retired from MMA last April, but he wants to step in the ring this year. There were rumors floating around recently of a potential bout between Masvidal and Nate Diaz in boxing. Speaking Wednesday on “The MMA Hour,” Masvidal confirmed there’s nothing officially in the works in regard to the potential fight, but he’s definitely down for it.

“There’s no deal in place, but I would love to fight that motherf*cker in a boxing match,” Masvidal said. “Obviously I would’ve loved to have done it in MMA when he was free and I was free, but it wasn’t working out. I was competing with Usman for the title during that time when he was free, and then he finished out his contract.

“Now the UFC is so gracious, they’re going to let me box for a couple of matches. Nate could be one of them, hopefully. We have unfinished business.”

Masvidal recently posted a photo of himself in Stockton, Calif., where Diaz famously trains and resides. “Gamebred” was hoping to run into Diaz and get something going regarding the boxing match.

“I was out in Cali for a couple of days, and I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to stop by Stockton,” Masvidal said. “I’ve never been, and I heard the tacos are good over there and maybe I’ll run into Nate, and we can make this fight happen.’ So I took the squad over there, wrote down my number on a piece of paper and started handing it out to people that look like they know Nate Diaz. I met a butcher, and he was like, ‘Yeah, I know Nate well.’ I’m like, ‘That’s funny because he’s vegan, but whatever, I’m just looking for beef, so you let me know how I find this motherf*cker.’ …

Masvidal’s last win came in the octagon when he battered Diaz en route to a Round 3 doctor’s stoppage TKO to claim the BMF title in November 2019. Since then, many expected to see a rematch, but it never came to fruition.

Regardless of a potential fight against Diaz, Masvidal is eager to get back to fighting and is confident he will do so this year.

“I got no idea, but I ain’t got no charges, no cases on me, no probation, so we have to make this sh*t happen sooner or later,” Masvidal said. “I know it’s going to happen this year, I just don’t know when. There’s a lot of paperwork and all that bullsh*t politics, but I’m ready to throw down, man.”
