27-year-old actor Ryo Narita (Katsuhiko Teshigawara in Your Name.) is confirmed to star in the forthcoming live-action TV drama adaptation of the suspense manga Touboui-F (The Fugitive Doctor F) by Keigo Izuki (story) and Makoto Sato (arts), which is set to premiere on Nihon TV in January 2022.
The manga was serialized in Akita Shoten’s bi-weekly magazine Play Comic from 2007 to 2008, and its three-volume tankobon are available in digital edition only. The story follows Keisuke Fujiki, a genius surgeon, who is falsely accused of murdering his girlfriend and abandons his position and name to go on the run. While running away from various pursuers, including the police, he tries to uncover the truth behind his lover’s death. In a teaser clip (which is region-locked to Japan), Narita says, “This is survival doctor entertainment like no one has ever seen before.”
The manga’s original story writer Izuki is happy about the casting, “The protagonist, Keisuke Fujiki (Kensuke Narumi), is played by my favorite actor, Ryo Narita-san. He is a perfect match for the character’s image. I wonder what kind of human drama the protagonist by him will weave, while being on the run throughout Japan… I will forget that I’m the author of the original story, and I’m excitedly waiting for it to air.”
