Struggling businesses in NSW will soon receive some support from the state government, as COVID outbreaks and hesitancy batter several industries.

Many businesses, especially those in the hospitality sector, have been struggling to stand on their own feet following last year’s lockdown followed by the Omicron outbreak.

Under a new rescue plan, set to cost to state up to $500 million a week, qualifying businesses can expect 20 per cent of their payroll to be covered, 7NEWS understands.

The plan is budgeted to run through to March, possibly as late as April.

Businesses will need to apply before its paid, with the government promising it will be ready to rollout the cash.

“I accept last time we were flying and building the plane at the same time,” Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello said as he referred to previous delays in payment distribution.

“We’re aiming to get the money into the account, an average of 5-10 business days.”

Some businesses say the support can’t come soon enough.

Nenita Villcorte from Lawrence Dry Cleaners said every day that passes is crushing her business more.

“We don’t know how to survive… (it’s) so hard,” she said.

The support package was expected to come this week, but has been delayed.

“They’ve been in discussions with business groups since mid-December,” State Opposition Leader Chris Minns said.

“We need to get on with it.”

A political tug of war is believed to be the reason for the delay.

The NSW government pleaded to Canberra to double the money in a 50-50 deal but it’s understood the Prime Minister refused.

The plan is set to be officially announced next week.
