Cowboys vs. 49ers Odds, Best Bets: Can Dallas Avenge Recent Losses to SF?

by News7

On an NFL Sunday that doesn’t lack for quality games, the headliner is the nightcap between the Cowboys and the 49ers.

Both teams were expected to contend for homefield advantage in the NFC playoffs, but right now, neither is above .500.

Injuries have hit both teams hard, as star Cowboys DE Micah Parsons has played just four games, while Niners RB Christian McCaffrey has not been on the field at all.

The must-see clash between the Boys’ and Niners kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC/Peacock.

Cowboys vs. 49ers Betting PreviewWith the Niners at 3-4 and looking up at 4-3 Seattle in the jumbled NFC West and the Cowboys at 3-3, behind both Philly and Washington in the NFC East, the loser of this game could find itself in a deep midseason hole in the standings.

That should make for playoff-like intensity at Levi’s Stadium. Between the urgency on both sidelines and the various injury woes these teams are dealing with, this game is fascinating on several fronts.

We know who the Niners are definitely without. McCaffrey, star WR Brandon Aiyuk and WR Jauan Jennings are unavailable for San Francisco. There are additional concerns about WR Deebo Samuel and TE George Kittle. Good news on that front did emerge on Saturday night, though, when Adam Schefter tweeted that Samuel and Kittle, who are listed as questionable, would likely be active.

With those two on the field, San Francisco should be able to move the ball on a Cowboys defense that has been vulnerable without Parsons and fellow DE DeMarcus Lawrence. Against the Niners, Dallas will also be without one of its top DBs, cornerback DaRon Bland.

The Cowboys are coming off a bye, but they were eviscerated at home in their last game, a 47-9 loss to the Lions. Dallas already won once this year as a road underdog on Sunday Night Football, but there’s a ton going against this team at the moment.

Another reason to question whether Mike McCarthy’s team can pull off the upset is its brutal recent history against San Francisco. The Niners ended the Cowboys’ season in 2021 and 2022. Dak Prescott and the offense struggled mightily in both those games, losing 23-17 in the ’21 playoffs and 19-12 the following year.

Things didn’t go any better when these teams met in the regular season last year, either, as Dallas lost 42-10 on SNF in Week 5.

Cowboys vs. 49ers Pick, Best BetsEarlier this week, when it seemed like San Francisco might be missing Samuel and Kittle — and before key Cowboys defenders Parsons and Bland were ruled out — it was easy for us to talk ourselves into the underdogs getting a win coming off the bye.

But the latest injury news makes it hard to see Dallas winning this contest. These teams are clearly flawed, but right now, the Niners are much more trustworthy as favorites of less than a touchdown.

We’re going to assume that the 49ers will get a big game from either Kittle and/or Samuel and back the squad that has dominated this rivalry the last three years.
