Hunt for the TikTok killer: 7NEWS Spotlight chases Punjabi rapper Ranjit Bath across the world

I’ve been covering crime for almost 15 years and each and every story comes with its own heartache but this is one of the most horrific injustices I’ve ever had to report.

It’s so cruel to think that a Sydney mother – who was recently separated – has had her world torn apart, all because she was lonely and looking for love.

I first met Kirandeep Saggar at a McDonald’s Restaurant in Sydney’s west after a contact asked me to tell her story, in the hope it might end her excruciating nightmare.

She shared the history of her relationship with this monster – Punjabi rap singer Ranjit Bath – and told me when she refused to marry him – he planned the ultimate revenge.

He killed her elderly father. Her dad was her best friend.

But the torment didn’t stop there — after the murder in India in August 2024 — Bath was obsessive and sent Kiran hundreds of messages a day — threatening to kill her.

I told her how brave she is for speaking out and she repeatedly told me — in her understated way — that she wasn’t, she was embarrassed.

But what happened isn’t her fault – only one person is to blame – Ranjit Bath.

Many victims in a similar position often don’t have the strength to share their story so soon after such a tragedy. But just five weeks after her father’s death, she was confiding in me – bravely fighting for justice for her murdered father.

I realised then that Kiran had no idea how powerful her story was — not only to take on the Indian and Canadian governments — but her experience might also help other women experiencing domestic violence.

Once we agreed to do the story together, I began to realise the true extent of Ranjit Bath’s sickening obsession.

Kiran and I would speak almost daily — and she would send me Bath’s text messages to her.

One minute he was telling her he loved her, then he’d threaten to kill her entire family, including her young daughters.

And despite all of this— Bath was a free man.

After the murder in India, he fled to Vancouver, Canada – knowing he’d likely escape prosecution.

And Indian police weren’t looking like they’d be applying for his extradition anytime soon — so someone had to do something to put the pressure on authorities because Kiran is in danger.

We had Bath’s residential address in Canada and we were determined to track him down.

We also wanted to speak with Canadian authorities about what they thought about having a vile killer living in their community.

Sadly, this heartless monster has gone to ground.

And Indian Police seem no closer to putting him behind bars.

All Kiran wanted was answers and protection. But for now, she’ll continue to live in fear — until someone in a position of power — takes up her fight.
