Shrinkflation has hit a major ice cream brand with Maxibon “downsizing” its frozen dessert.
The product’s official Instagram page made the announcement, conceding it was “not news you’ll want to cop, but we had to let you know first”.
“Tough times mean tough changes. And because of that, we’ve had to make the call to downsize our Maxibon a touch,” the company said.

“So, from this month, you’ll notice the changes, but our Maxibons will have the same taste you know and love.”
Forecasting the news would leave a sour taste with many, the brand posted a graphic with a number of words playing on the company’s decision.
It read: “MaxiCon, MaxiGone, MaxiFlation, MaxiLess, BonFlation and ShrinkBon.”
The announcement prompted one person to lash out, saying: “Small servings for maximum profits.”
While there was no word on how much of the 102g serving would be trimmed, some argued they should have just increased pricing.
“I would gladly pay more for the same size bon rather than accept a smaller serving. Smaller sizes mean I gotta eat two now just to fill the sides,” one person said.
The brand said the recommended retail price would remain the same.
Shrinkflation – a term used to describe the downsizing of products – is nothing new. Cadbury, Allen’s Lollies and major cereal brands have been getting smaller too.
Manufacturers commonly blame inflation, rising fuel costs and supply chain issues when they make the move, saying it costs them more to make and distribute items.
