A man’s way of keeping his engagement plans hidden from his now-fiancee has delighted viewers online.
Amanda Jones, who is known on TikTok as @mandyvjones, could not believe what her partner had in store when they went out for dinner with their close friends on a trip to Colorado. Jones, 28, who is based in California, fell for what she calls the “most gullible” engagement plan orchestrated by her now-fiance.
The social media influencer, from Santa Monica, was told that her partner Colin’s best friend would be proposing on the first evening of their joint trip. Little did Jones know that the only engagement she would be seeing that evening was her own. She took to TikTok on October 2 to recount her surprise.
“We got engaged a few weeks ago,” Jones told Newsweek. “It was a total shock!
“I couldn’t be more excited! Colin has always been pretty great with surprises, but this one definitely takes the cake! I still cannot believe it!”
Viewers on TikTok were able to see a clip of Jones before her engagement, in a post from October 2 that has been viewed more than 539,000 times to date. The creator had filmed herself wearing a chic white dress with a cross-body bag, while detailing her evening plans to her audience.

“We just got to our room, I quickly changed and Colin’s best friend is proposing in about 30 minutes, and it’s a white party after,” she told viewers.
An overlaid text on the video read: “Me [also known as] the most gullible person ever 30 minutes before I got proposed to.”
She had previously revealed to her audience in a post from October 1 that she had gotten engaged on the trip, but was keen to share the candid clip of herself before the special moment to show how fooled she was by her fiance’s cover-up.
Viewers online have laughed along at Jones’ self-confessed naivety, while congratulating her and her fiance.
“OK that man is SMARTTTT,” one viewer said.
Another added: “White party after was SUCH a good cover OMG.”
“This is TOO GOOD cannot get over it,” a third viewer said.
Alongside creating content, Jones is currently developing an organic seltzer brand, with her fiance.
“My fiance and I have been working on this for two years now,” she said. “It has been so fun getting to work alongside him.”
