17-Year-Old Teen Lands in Court After Scamming Fellow Students with Fake SADC Program

A 17-year-old boy from Zimre Park, Ruwa, was recently dragged to Harare Magistrates Court for defrauding high school students.

The conniving teenager reportedly posed as a member of the Junior Parliament, promising students a chance to join the Junior Motivators SADC Parliament program in exchange for money.

The way the teenager defrauded his peers has sparked hilarious reactions on social media.

How The Teen Scammed Fellow Students with Fake SADC ProgramAccording to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the teenager carried out the scam in July 2024. He took advantage of his peers’ ambitions by masquerading as a Junior Parliament member, exploiting their trust for financial gain.

He reportedly convinced several students to pay $562 for registration and uniforms and an additional $550 for a camping trip to Domboshava Resort. After collecting a total of $2,640 from the students, the teenager disappeared, leaving his victims without any trace of their money. To date, none of the funds have been recovered.

Court ProceedingsDespite the severity of his actions, the accused was released into the custody of his guardian. The matter has been remanded to September 5, 2024, leaving many curious about the eventual outcome.
