USMNT vs Jamaica

The US men’s national team are all set to take on Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals on Thursday night.

The two North American countries will renew their rivalry for the 16th time for a trip to the final that’s slated for Sunday evening.

The Stars and Stripes are the current holders of the Nations League after knocking off Canada last summer 2-0 and will face stiff competition from a Jamaica side that’s more than capable of pulling off an upset. Gregg Berhalter’s side triumphed 3-0 in the quarterfinal first leg before losing 2-1 in the return fixture, but the aggregate score of 4-2 in their favor saw them progress to the next round of the competition.

The Reggae Boyz fell 2-1 to Canada in their first leg quarterfinal matchup before taking home a 3-2 victory in the second leg, advancing to the semifinals after a 4-4 aggregate score thanks to the away goals rule that’s still used in Concacaf tournaments.

Here’s 90min’s preview of the semifinal clash between the USMNT and Jamaica.

Berhalter has called up Haji Wright and Brenden Aaronson into his squad for the semifinal clash due to injuries to Luca de la Torre and Josh Sargent.

De la Torre is recovering from a right quadriceps strain while Sargent is dealing with an ankle problem. Aaronson hopes to add to his impressive 14 goal involvements should he be called upon, while De la Torre hopes to make his 21st appearances for the US.

USMNT predicted lineup vs Jamaica

USMNT predicted lineup vs Jamaica (4-3-3): Turner; Dest, Miles Robinson, Ream, Antonee Robinson; Musah, McKennie, Cardoso; Pulisic, Balogun, Weah.

Leon Bailey

Aston Villa figure Leon Bailey will miss the clash with the USMNT through team suspension and not injury. Bailey reportedly missed curfew and Jamaica boss Heimir Hallgrimsson has removed him and Trivante Steward from selection for Thursday night’s game.

Jamaica predicted lineup vs USMNT

Jamaica predicted lineup vs USMNT (4-4-2): Blake; Lembikisa, Lowe, Hector, Leigh; De Cordova-Reid, Johnson, Latibeaudiere, Gray; Antonio, Nicholson.

Even though Jamaica have a rather depleted squad for this one – especially without the brilliance of Bailey – it should still be close for most of the contest given how the US have fared so far in Berhalter’s second spell.

Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah will be on point for the hosts to propel them to a comfortable victory in the end, where they’ll setup a final clash against either rivals Mexico or Panama for Sunday night.

Prediction: USMNT 2-0 Jamaica
