Women’s transfer news: Aston Villa sign Dutch international; Crystal Palace bolster squad

It’s been a quiet week in the summer transfer window, with only a handful of WSL clubs making moves.

Manchester City have been one of the more active teams with two goalkeeper additions. They signed England youth international Eve Annets from Reading, and Japanese international Ayaka Yamashita. Elsewhere, Chelsea’s Katerina Svitkova has joined Slavia Prague on a permanent deal after a loan spell in the second half of last season.

Aston Villa have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Dutch international Chasity Grant. The 23-year-old has signed for the WSL club on a three-year deal from Ajax for an undisclosed fee.

The winger began her senior career in the Eredivisie Vrouwen with ADO Den Haag prior to signing for Ajax in 2020. She went on to make over 100 appearances for the three-time league winners and scored 27 goals.

Villa manager Robert de Pauw said: “Chasity is a fast winger with lots of pace. She can play on both sides and is also able to play as a striker or wing-back. She has earned her stripes in the Netherlands, winning everything there was to win.

“She is a player I believe will suit the WSL with her style of play and I look forward to working with her and seeing her shine in front of our amazing supporters.”

Newly-promoted Crystal Palace are gearing up for their first ever season in the WSL and Laura Kaminski is hoping to build a side capable of competing if they’re to maintain their place in the top flight. They have now ramped up their transfer business with two new additions in the space of a week.

Palace kicked things off with the signing of New Zealand international Indiah-Paige Riley from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday. The forward signed a two-year deal and became their third signing of the summer window.

Riley said: “I’m super excited. I can’t wait to meet everyone, and I’m just in awe of these facilities. They’re amazing and I can’t wait to use them! It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the WSL and to do it here with Crystal Palace, I’m so excited.”

On Friday, Palace also announced the signing of Dutch international Ashleigh Weerden, who is a graduate of the Ajax academy. The 25-year-old winger joined their Centre for Top Sports and Education at the age of 15, and went on to have spells at FC Twente and Montpellier before she rejoined Ajax in 2022.

Lucy Parry and Rachael Laws

It’s been a quiet summer for Liverpool in terms of incomings, with just one signing to note as Canada international Olivia Smith joined the club from Sporting CP last month. They have lost one big name in Missy Bo Kearns, but this week they announced contract extensions for two players.

33-year-old goalkeeper Rachael Laws penned a new deal that commits her immediate future to the Merseyside club. Laws rejoined Liverpool in 2020 for a second spell with the team and has become an instrumental figure for Matt Beard over the last four years.

Lucy Parry, 20, has also committed her future to the club for the upcoming season. The defender has been at Liverpool since she was seven and she enjoyed a breakout campaign last year by making 16 appearances.

Former Leicester City forward Remy Siemsen has completed a move to Swedish side Kristianstads DFF. The 24-year-old Australia international joined the Foxes in January last year, but injuries severely limited her game time.

Leicester City confirmed her departure back in June following the expiry of her contract, and now her next club has been confirmed. Siemsen has played in Sweden before with AIK Fotboll Dam back in 2022.
