2023 U.S. Open picks, odds, field, date: Surprising PGA predictions by top golf model that’s nailed 9 majors

by News7

The third major of the year, the 2023 U.S. Open, will begin on Thursday, June 15 from Los Angeles Country Club. Just one golfer in the 2023 U.S. Open field can complete the career grand slam with a victory, Phil Mickelson. His six major championships are matched by his six runners-up at the U.S. Open, which are the most all-time. However, with no top-25s at the major over the last decade, Mickelson is a massive 150-1 long shot in the 2023 U.S. Open odds. Caesars Sportsbook has Scottie Scheffler as the 17-2 U.S. Open 2023 favorite after he was the runner-up a year ago. Jon Rahm won this tournament two years ago and is 9-1, while other 2023 U.S. Open contenders include Rory McIlroy (10-1) and Brooks Koepka (10-1).

Before locking in your 2023 U.S. Open picks or entering any PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the 2023 U.S. Open predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,700 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Hardy and Davis Riley in its best bets to win the 2023 Zurich Classic. That bet hit at +4500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned over $1,100. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 U.S. Open field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2023 U.S. Open leaderboard.

Top 2023 U.S. Open predictions One major surprise the model is calling for at the U.S. Open 2023: Cameron Smith, a six-time PGA Tour winner and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and barely cracks the top 15. He won the 2022 Open Championship, but he has not finished in the top five at either of the major championships this season. Smith was outside the top 30 at the Masters in April, shooting 4-over-par.

He finished ninth at the PGA Championship in the second major of the year, but was never in contention for the title. Smith has struggled at the U.S. Open in recent years, failing to place inside the top 35 since his debut in 2015. He has missed the cut in each of the last two U.S. Open tournaments, so the model does not see any value in backing Smith at short golf odds in this year’s edition. See which golfers to fade here.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 22-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The L.A. native grew up just 30 miles from Los Angeles Country Club and has the course experience that most of the field doesn’t. Morikawa competed in the 2017 Walker Cup at the course and went 4-0 in the competition for amateur players.

A two-time major winner, Morikawa was fourth at the 2021 U.S. Open and fifth last year. He’s the only golfer to place in the top five in the last two tournaments, and overall, Morikawa has seven top-10s over his last 12 starts at majors. With Morikawa having local fan support, winning course experience and a game that elevates in majors, he is vastly overlooked for 2023 U.S. Open bets, according to oddsmakers. See who else to pick here.

How to make 2023 U.S. Open picksThe model is also targeting three other golfers with U.S. Open odds 2023 longer than 20-1 who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s 2023 U.S. Open picks here.
