The Dallas Cowboys fall at home again. It’s another hugely disappointing game that saw both offense and defense struggle. How did the rookies hold up against the Houston Texans? Let’s dive in and take a look.
OT Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton resumed his role at starting left tackle. He was the problem on the fumble return made by Houston in the second half. The play in question saw Guyton have issues holding up his man which forced the first fumble on the play, he then recovered the ball, fumbled the ball and Houston scored the touchdown. Beyond the whacky fumble play, Guyton wasn’t playing badly and allowed only one sack and two pressures. His biggest weakness, which is allowing penalties, wasn’t a problem this week and was clean all game. He did leave the game early with a shoulder injury so keep an eye on his injury status this week.
DE Marshawn Kneeland
Injured reserve
C Cooper Beebe
While everything around him was falling to pieces (with injuries), Beebe was a steady ship at center. He allowed only one quarterback hurry all game, but his run blocking looked a little sloppy throughout.
LB Marist Liufau
Liufau started at the Will linebacker position against Houston and played a total of 23 defensive snaps. He made three tackles and one tackle for loss but was relatively quiet all game when he was in.
CB Caelen Carson
Carson was active but played zero defensive snaps. All his work came on special teams after a number of weeks of poor production. Josh Butler took his place and made one good pass breakup. At this stage we can say there isn’t much difference in skill between the two players, maybe a slight edge to Butler.
WR Ryan Flournoy
Flournoy started his first NFL game and it was a proud moment for the young receiver. He made two receptions off four targets and managed to secure one first down. He was hampered by poor quarterback play and a deteriorating offensive line.
T Nathan Thomas
Injured reserve
TE Brevyn Spann-Ford
Ford played an expanded role once Jake Ferguson went out with a concussion. He finished the game with 42 offensive snaps which is a career high for him. He made four caches for 42 yards and four first downs. Although he was targeted less than Like Schoonmaker, Spann-Ford was more efficient with the ball and had more YAC, first downs and forced missed tackles than Schoonmaker.
