The season is over for the Dallas Cowboys which means we are squarely focused on the offseason and everything that comes with it. This also means that one of the biggest points of focus for Cowboys fans over the next few months will be the 2025 NFL Draft.
With the regular season wrapping up on Sunday enough was known by the afternoon to understand where the Cowboys would be picking in the first round of the draft.
The Dallas Cowboys will officially pick 12th in the 2025 NFL Draft.
At one point this past season it looked like the Cowboys were destined to pick inside of the top 5. It turns out that they won’t even be picking inside of the top 10.
While in a perfect world the Cowboys would be higher there are plenty of worse spots to be than number 12 overall. Consider that this is where Dallas landed Micah Parsons four years ago, although that was after initially trading back from the 10th overall spot.
Here are the last 20 players taken with the 12th overall pick in NFL draft history.

There are some impressive names on this list and some interesting history to hopefully guide us forward. Time will tell what the Cowboys ultimately decide to do with their selection.
Here is a reminder on all of the picks that Dallas has in the 2025 NFL Draft at this point in time:
1st (12th overall)
2nd (44th overall)
3rd (76th overall)
5th (number subject to change after comp picks announced)
6th (number subject to change after comp picks announced)
7th (number subject to change after comp picks announced)
The Cowboys sent their fourth-round pick in the draft to the Carolina Panthers at the trade deadline when they dealt for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. Dallas also received a seventh-round pick in that exchange. Recall that they sent their original seventh-rounder in 2025 to the Detroit Lions during their trade in the middle of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Cowboys will in all likelihood net a couple of compensatory picks based on what happened in free agency last year. OverTheCap.com projects the Cowboys to receive three fifth-round picks as well as one in both the sixth and seventh rounds, but there is a maximum of four picks that can be awarded to each team. This is a good bit to guess around for now, though.
Given how notoriously absent the Cowboys are in free agency they will in all likelihood have to nail their draft. This is the original set of ammunition that they have to work with.
