He will join Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard, New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson, Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen, Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton and Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Malik Beasley as this year’s competitors.

Maxey’s 3-Point Contest appearance will be the first of his career, and he will be making his first All-Star Game appearance. Maxey is shooting 38.3% from deep this season, and he has made the 10th-most three-pointers this season with 140.

The 2024 3-Point Contest will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17.

In his fourth NBA campaign, Maxey is having the best year of his career. Playing as Philadelphia’s second option alongside Joel Embiid, Maxey is putting up 26.2 points and 6.4 assists per game—both numbers being career highs. With Embiid undergoing a procedure for a meniscus injury, Maxey will need to step up to keep the 76ers afloat.

Maxey will look to add to his big season by taking home some hardware during the All-Star break, but it won’t be easy.

He will be competing with the reigning champ, Damian Lillard, who hit 26 threes in the final round last year to win the trophy. Lillard is having a down year from deep, shooting just 34.7 percent from three in his first season with the Bucks, so Maxey and the other contestants will be looking to dethrone him.

Mitchell, who is putting up 28.2 points per game this season, is shooting at a 35.1% mark from deep this season and is looking to win his first crown this season.

Haliburton will be making his second appearance in the 3-Point Contest after losing to Lillard last year. The Pacers star is shooting 39.8% from deep this year.

Beasley is shooting at the best clip of all the contestants, hitting 45.1% of his shots from deep this year, and Brunson and Markkanen follow behind him, shooting 41.3% and 40.1% from three, respectively.
