Nebraska’s Lexi Rodriguez Shares Precious Moment With Family Minutes Before High Stake Penn State Clash

by News7

The big day is here! The Nebraska Huskers have made it to the NCAA Championships final four; this time, it’s a grudge match with Penn State. Nebraska volleyball even had to share the title after losing the BIG10 title game on November 29. So it’s no wonder that scores of Huskers fans gathered outside the KFC Yum Center to greet the team. Among them was Lexi Rodriguez‘s family.

The crowd cheered and chanted ‘Go Big Red!’ and some even played trumpets to greet the players as they disembarked from the team bus. However, it was even more special for the Husker, as her parents, Chris and Crystal Rodriguez, were in the front row. The Libero’s older sister and fiancé, Kaylee and Ryan, and even their son Tatum, aka the Husker’s baby nephew, were there.

“Warm embraces for @Alexis14Rod,” wrote ‘Hail Varsity’ while sharing glimpses of the special moments on X. After all, the family wouldn’t miss this game, as it could become a historic game for Lexi Rodriguez’s college volleyball career. That’s because this semifinal match is more than a chance for the Huskers to avenge their loss and move on to the finals.

“Rodriguez needs nine digs tonight to become the all-time leader at Nebraska,” noted Hail Varsity. Rodriguez is set to break another record after becoming the first libero to become the AVCA Regional Player of the Year. The defensive specialist is heading into the semi-final against Penn State with 1,882 career digs, putting her within touching distance of the record.

The current record stands at 1890, set by former Husker Justine Wong-Orantes. So there’s a high chance that Lexi Rodriguez will surpass Wong-Orantes’ record tonight against the Nittany Lions. Breaking another record in a high-stakes match may also give her the boost she needs to become the first Libero National Player of the Year. So it’s no wonder the Husker family has arrived to show their support. After all, they can’t take any risks for this one.

Lexi Rodriguez’s family couldn’t afford to slip up this timeSupporting their daughter by attending Nebraska games is a tradition for the Rodriguez family. In fact, it would be shocking if the volleyball icon’s family didn’t show up at the venue. Despite hailing from Illinois, the Rodriguez family, especially Chris and Crystal Rodriguez, have regularly driven hundreds to thousands of miles to attend Nebraska games.

Lexi Rodriguez’s parents recently had to purchase a newer Buick Enclave model. If you guessed it’s because they drove it too much, then you were right. The family drove their old car over 200,000 miles to watch their daughter excel on the court. However, the one time they didn’t attend a game this season, SMU handed the Huskers their first loss of 2024.

Rodriguez’s grandparents had made the trip for that match. “I stayed home and watched that one… Then got blamed the whole season.” Crystal Rodriguez told the Omaha World Journal, so this time the family didn’t take any risks and arrived at the KFC Yum! Center long before the match started. Yet will the Libero family’s presence be the lucky charm for Rodriguez and co.? We’ll get the answer by tonight.
