Sean Strickland hilariously told his fights don’t live up to his legendary trash talk by former champion

by News7

The former UFC middleweight champion has become a divisive figure in the sport for multiple reasons.

Away from some of his controversial opinions, Sean Strickland is still able to split fight fans with the way that he approaches the sport.

The 33-year-old often talks a good game and is known for being one of the biggest trash talkers in the UFC, which was consistently on show in the build up to his first fight with Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297.

Part of his pre-fight persona is guaranteeing that the fans will be in for a life-or-death battle when the Octagon door closes and he has made similar statements about his upcoming rematch with the South African in the main event of UFC 312.

Despite what he has said about going to war with Dricus Du Plessis on February 8, fans know by now to expect his usual style which relies heavily on his defensive capabilities whilst chipping away at his opponents with single strikes.

They specifically referenced his current feud with the welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad, which is one of many beefs that ‘Tarzan’ has been involved in over the past few years.

Bisping, a former middleweight champion himself, joked that whilst the talk doesn’t always match the action, it still makes for an entertaining build.

“He does always talk about, you know, ‘Fight d***-to-d***, nipple-to-nipple, to the death!’ And then he does have his style, the way that he fights, which kind of, with respect, I’m not trying to talk s***, kind of conflicts a little bit, you know, it does. But, he’s an entertaining b****** leading up to the fight, at the press conferences, he’s one of the most entertaining people now.”

His fellow UFC commentator, Felder, agreed with this sentiment and even pointed out how Strickland could be using this disparity to his advantage.

“You’re right, it is kind of funny that the energy that he puts out there leading up to the fights and then the energy that he fights with is completely different. It’s kind of genius in a way too though because he baits these guys into thinking, ‘We’re gonna have this bloody battle back-and-forth, just dog fight,’ and then he’s very strategic.”

He narrowly lost his first contest against ‘Stillknocks’ and though he did have his fair share of success, the defending champion was unable to effectively implement his style in order to control the fight.

Strickland doesn’t need to abandon his approach but being a bit more aggressive could allow him to push the pace and force Du Plessis into a game that he doesn’t want to play.

We already know how the challenger is going to fight once the opening bell sounds but increasing the intensity could be the difference between revenge or repeat.
