The Triathlon Trust, British Triathlon’s charitable arm, has relaunched with an aim to reduce the barriers to participation in swim, bike, run and multisport events. Paralympian, Lauren Steadman will continue as the trust’s ambassador.

British Triathlon adds that… ‘The Triathlon Trust is relaunching with a new focus, dynamic new board members, and a refreshed remit to support more community-based programmes. Its aim is to support initiatives dedicated to reducing barriers to participation in physical activities and instilling essential life skills through swim, bike, run and multisports.

‘The new board comprises a group of passionate individuals who bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the Trust. Their expertise will be instrumental in guiding its strategic vision and enhancing its impact across the UK.’

Gary Adey, Chair of the Triathlon Trust, said “I am really pleased to be leading a board who are deeply passionate about inclusion and participation in sport and physical activity and are looking for new, sustainable ways to fundraise and reduce the barriers to learning new skills and staying active.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Salmon, the previous Chief Executive of British Triathlon for his ongoing support and dedication to the Trust. We all wish him well in his new role at Swim England.

“We are looking forward to now working with the new CEO, Ruth Daniels, to achieve our fundraising targets and support British Triathlon in delivering its local programmes by providing funding to help reduce barriers to participation.”

New British Triathlon CEO Ruth Daniels added “I can see the strong relationship the Triathlon Trust has with British Triathlon. I look forward to strengthening that relationship even further as we work together to increase opportunities for people to get active in communities across the country.”

Central to the Triathlon Trust’s mission in 2024 is an expansion of community-based programmes that aim to make swim, bike, run accessible to everyone. These programmes have a particular emphasis on underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.

Laura Steadman, who has been a Trust Ambassador since 2019, said “I am thrilled to continue my ambassador role with the Triathlon Trust and can’t wait to get stuck in supporting the Trust with fundraising, raising awareness about the importance of active lifestyles and breaking down barriers to participation. Triathlon has given me so much and I love that I get to share my passion and give back.”

Gary Adey added “As we embark on the next chapter of this exciting journey, we are gearing up for a successful fundraising year. We believe that with the support of our community, partners, and sponsors, we can make a significant difference in people’s lives.

“Our fundraising efforts will be crucial in sustaining and expanding our programmes, ensuring that more children, young people and families can experience the joy and benefits of swim, bike, run and triathlon.

“We invite everyone to join us in this endeavour, whether as participants, volunteers, fundraisers or donators. Together, we can create a healthier, more active, and inclusive society.”
