Max Homa naming Ryder Cup rival as PGA Tour most underrated goes viral

Max Homa is as real as it gets. He is the Twitter king and knows how to stir up a discussion.

CBS Sports reporter golf Kyle Porter loves to ask engaging questions on Twitter, and sometimes it produces fantastic answers. His latest asked who the most underrated golfer in the world is right now.

Homa was very matter of fact in his answer, dropping a name that might come as a surprise to some.

“The answer is Tyrrell Hatton,” Homa wrote.

That five-word response has garnered almost one million views on Twitter, with plenty then interacting with Homa.

The confidence his tweet exuded showed how serious he was about his answer. Hatton is quite talented, and Homa gives credit where credit is due.

Last week, the Englishman fired off an 11-under 62 in the second round of the Sentry. He also dropped an epic F-bomb caught by a hot mic following a poor shot. At this point, people know that Hatton will have those moments of rage — it’s just who he is.

During the Ryder Cup this past fall, Homa got a first-hand look at what Hatton brings to the table. While he was growing his relationship with Brian Harman, they saw Hatton go 3-0-1 and helped Team Europe handily beat the Americans 16.5 to 11.5.

Despite having just one PGA Tour win under his belt, the 32-year-old Englishman is ranked 14th in the world. To think that the No. 14 player in the world only has one Tour win is hard to believe.

Last year, the 32-year-old made 20 of 21 cuts. He recorded one runner-up finish, seven Top 10s and 13 Top 25s. Hatton earned $8,336,912 and finished No. 16 in the FedEx Cup race.

Since he turned pro in 2011, the former Arnold Palmer Invitational winner has recorded six international wins, three runner-up finishes, five third places, 15 top 5s, and 32 top 10s.

Homa sees his potential, though, and his tweet shows that Hatton could be overdue for his second PGA Tour victory. Maybe that will come this week in Honolulu at Wai’alae Country Club for the Sony Open.
